ABOUT THE ARTIST: Rooney was born in Dublin, Ireland, she is now residing in Canada. She received her art college eduction in Europe at The National College of Art and Design, Ireland and post graduate Masters Degree at Trinity College Dublin University. In addition to being a visual artist, she has worked as art college lecturer, designer and mural painter, She has over 10 years teaching experience as an art educator at 3rd level. Since graduating she has taught at the top art institutes in Ireland. She has exhibited internationally and received many awards for her work including the Dakota Printmaking Award, The Rondomondo Bursary Award, and an Arts Council of Ireland award. In addition to her studio practice she is currently managing and establishing a dedicated printmaking facility at The French Lake Studios, New Brunswick. THE ART WORK Rooneys practice is a uniquely constructed fusion of mediums, approaches and imagery. The handmade and indulgent marks of drawing, meet the mechanically reproduced marks of printmaking. These are intermingled with other obscure mark-making processes. The techniques employed to construct the work include serigraph, etching, embossing and drawing processes. The subject of the work is varied and strobes between the theatrical element of everyday life and the mundane. The Images used are The Ventriloquists Dummy, The Mouth, and The Circus Performers. Rooneys approach is distinguished by the unique layering of imagery. It is playful and dramatic, challenging the frame. The work includes many reflective materials that respond to light and change the nature of the work as the viewer moves.
